Your father's family:
Mother was Lydia Bowes. Her father was Thomas Bowes. Her mother was Susan
Robb. Her father was Scotch Irish and related to Queen Mother of England.
One of her names was Bowes and the family was named Earl of Scotland. Her
mother was German and came from a large family of Robbs which I know very
little.
His father's name was Orrin Thomas DeWitt and his father's name was James
DeWitt. His mother's name was Harriot Straub, both Dutch. DeWitts I
understand came from Dutch Huguenots. Went into Holland due to religious
troubles in France intermarried into Dutch Holland. Louis DeWitt Sr's
grandfather James DeWitt fought in the Revolutionary War. His wife went
South to nurse soldiers. James DeWitt after war went West for Gold Rush
and died out there in Calif. No one ever heard much about him. Some said
he was killed by his partner, but no proof of same. His wife lived to be
93 yrs old. He had a brother William DeWitt & a sister Mamie of Orrin
Thomas DeWitt.
Lydia Jane Bowes, Louis Sr's mother came from large family 17 children
born to Susan Bowes. They lived on a farm in Eagleville, Centre County,
Pa. DeWitts all lived in Lock Haven, Clinton Co. Pa.

Birthplace Kreiss Kolberg is probably Kolberg, now renamed Kolobrzeg in
Poland.

Jahmen Germany is not on any current atlases I have been able to check.
Belitz and Polchow are both small towns around Rostock in today's
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic coast of the former East Germany.

"Grandmother too died suddenly. As I understand a semi drunk galloped his
horses down the hill. Some of the passengers landed on ice at the foot of
the hill. Grandmother was killed at once. Who took care of Aunt Anna from
then on I don't know. I have an idea that after Uncle Herman and Aunt
